Ms Dimitra Malaki, MA

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

As a mental health counsellor, my role is to support people of all ages deal with their concerns and explore themselves.

About Me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece. I treat anxiety, mood and eating disorders, relationship issues, and low self-esteem. I use counseling, psychology, CBT, and psychodynamic therapy.

Approach

I have been affected by several therapeutic modalities such as Psychoanalytic (deal with the unconscious mind), Psychodynamic (the way unconscious memories-feelings-emotions-thoughts affect current life), Person-centered (empathetic approach, each person has the capacity for personal growth), Existential (fear of the unknown, meaninglessness, isolation, freedom or a responsibility to make the best choices), Gestalt (sees the human mind and behavior as a whole) and CBT (aims to reduce symptoms and challenge distorted thought patterns). I believe that among the different therapeutic approaches therapists/mental health counselors need to examine clients’ presenting issues in order to decide which therapeutic approach will better help them to deal with their issues. Part of my continuing learning is my participation in voluntary organizations, my attendance in psychology-related seminars, my engagement in personal therapy and supervision.

Services

I offer individual therapeutic sessions to adults from different backgrounds via Telehealth.

Part of my role as a Mental Health Counselor, is to support - encourage people to achieve their aims, and accompany them while they will be exploring themselves.

I pay special attention to the therapeutic relationship, which seems to be the variable that can facilitate change. The therapeutic relationship with my clients is characterized by equality, respect, care, genuineness, openness and acceptance. I believe those characteristics can contribute to creating this kind of environment that inspires others to feel safe.
