About Me

Despi, is a registered Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, a mindfulness and yoga practitioner (MBSR trained) and Sound therapist. She offers a space for those navigating the intricate pathways of the self. Her practice is rooted in a deep commitment to cultivating wellbeing, and the quiet unfolding of self-awareness. Her intention is to cultivate a sanctuary of presence—a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where the most tender parts of your story can be explored and held with care, uncover inner resources and create meaningful change.

Approach

Despi approaches therapy as an integrative and collaborative process. She views her clients as the experts in their own lives and works alongside them to cultivate insight, resilience, and integration. Her therapeutic approach is informed by a diverse range of evidence-based and insight-oriented modalities, including: Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapies, such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for managing depression and preventing relapse. Somatic Psychology, focusing on the mind-body connection to process emotional and traumatic experiences. Insight-Based Approaches for understanding underlying patterns and origins of current struggles. Internal Family systems (IFS) is an insight-oriented therapy that views the mind as a system of protective and vulnerable "parts" led by the innate healing wisdom of the resourceful Self. Narrative Therapy, to help clients re-author their life stories and create new, empowering meaning. Integrative Therapy is a flexible, customized approach that blends concepts and techniques from various therapeutic models to meet the unique needs of the individual client. Further enriching her practice, Despi draws from the wisdom of contemplative traditions. She is a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Facilitator, certified Yoga Teacher, and Sound Therapist. These practices emphasize the transformative power of present moment awareness, deep listening, self-compassion, and integrating mind, body, and spirit.
