Dr Christina Clarke

Clinical Psychologist

I am a UK trained Clinical Psychologist offering face to face and online therapeutic support to D/deaf, Hard of Hearing & CODA children, young people and families. I am acutely aware of the lack of mental health professionals working in this space in Australia, so started the Online Mental Health with Deaf and Hard of Hearing People Network in December 2021, to create a collaborative and supportive space for Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing practitioners to come together and share knowledge and experience. I regularly provide teaching and training to various organisations and am a board approved supervisor, providing supervision to professionals across disciplines looking to upskill, reflect on or improve their practice in the child and family space.

About Me

I am a UK trained Clinical Psychologist, working across clinical, research, teaching and supervisory roles since 1998, gaining my Doctorate qualification in 2005. I work predominantly with D/deaf, hard of hearing and CODA communities focusing on therapeutic work with children, young people and families. I am passionate about supporting D/deaf and hard of hearing clients and considers myself a Deaf ally and very Deaf aware - understanding how this population are affected by society's responses to them and how this in turn negatively impacts developmental and emotional wellbeing. I am hearing, have completed the Diploma of Auslan and work with professional interpreters for clients whose first language is Auslan or who prefer signing to spoken word. I am based on Brisbane’s Northside in Queensland, Australia.

Approach

My therapeutic training is diverse and integrative across Systemic/Family Therapy, Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment, and Psychodynamic models – tailoring intervention to best fit clients’ needs.
