“I aim to create a space that feels steady, respectful, and real, where you can think, feel and begin making sense of things in your own way.”

About me

Welcome! I'm Brennan, a Registered Counsellor based in Wynberg, Cape Town. I offer a supportive, collaborative space to help clients develop greater clarity and confidence. Some sessions may involve exploring patterns, relationships or past experiences, while others may focus more on what feels immediate or overwhelming. There is no prescribed way to engage in counselling. What matters is creating room for reflection, understanding and movement towards a way of living that feels more authentic and connected. I offer both online and in-person counselling, depending on individual circumstances and preferences. I work with young adults navigating transitions, anxiety and relationship difficulties. I also have a particular interest in couples work and supporting neurodivergent clients, with a focus on understanding individual experiences and finding ways forward that feel more sustainable and meaningful.

Approach

My approach is primarily person-centred, which means we work collaboratively at a pace that feels manageable for you. I aim to create a flexible and thought-provoking space that responds to your unique needs. Some sessions may focus practically on building skills and strategies or problem-solving. I also utilise depth- and insight-oriented therapeutic approaches where helpful. With relationship difficulties, for example, we might explore recurring patterns in relationships and the ways you tend to respond within them. Sometimes these patterns have roots in earlier relationships or experiences within our families of origin. Because many of our ways of relating become quite automatic, we're not always aware of them ourselves. Exploring some of that history can help us understand what may be playing out in the present and, over time, create more choice in how we respond. In cases of anxiety and/or panic, I may also bring in some psychoeducation to help a client understand what is happening psychologically and physically when anxiety becomes activated, as well as looking at ways of managing it. Depending on the person, it can also be useful to explore what may sit underneath the anxiety, including experiences or relationship patterns that have affected our sense of emotional safety. In terms of the number of sessions, that's difficult to predict at the outset. Some people come for support around something quite specific and find that a relatively short period of counselling is enough, while others choose to work for longer and explore things in more depth. We can begin with an initial session, see how it feels to work together, and take it from there. I hope that gives you a better sense of how I work, but you're welcome to ask if there's anything else you'd like to know.
