BeyondBleu is an international psychotherapy practice founded in Tokyo and working online across Japan and beyond. Our clients are largely expatriates, intercultural couples and internationally mobile families, people whose lives, and often whose difficulties, sit across more than one country and more than one language. We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, therapy for children and adolescents, and psychological and neurocognitive assessment. Sessions are held by secure video, which means that if you move again, you keep the same therapist.

About Us

The practice works in English, Japanese and Italian. Four clinicians see clients: Tumee Hugginson, psychotherapist, MA in Clinical Psychology, trained to Level 3 in the Gottman Method, who works with couples; Martina Bottazzo, MA, a Japan Certified Public Psychologist (公認心理師), who works with individuals and families and carries out psychological assessment; Dr Lorenzo Geirola, PhD, clinical neuropsychologist and a registered psychologist on the Tuscany Register in Italy, who carries out neurocognitive and psychological assessment; and Brandon Liu, psychotherapist, MS, certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. No referral is needed. This is a private practice and it is not covered by Japanese National Health Insurance. If your international or employer policy might reimburse therapy, ask us and we will provide a receipt with whatever details your insurer requires. Individual sessions are ¥18,800 for 50 to 60 minutes. Couples sessions are ¥33,000 for 90 minutes. Family sessions are ¥40,000 for 80 minutes. Psychological and neurocognitive assessment starts at ¥40,000.

Approach

We work in depth rather than in scripts. That means we pay attention not only to the difficulty you arrive with, but to what sits underneath it, the patterns, the history and the circumstances that make it persist. Our clinicians draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method for couples, and on depth-oriented psychotherapy, CBT- and ACT-informed work, attachment theory and trauma-aware practice with individuals. The approach is fitted to the person in front of us rather than the other way around. Much of our work is with people living between languages and cultures. Relocation, distance from family, working in a second language and raising children between school systems are not background details in that work — they are often the substance of it. Sessions are held online by secure video. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis to begin, and you can keep the same therapist if you move country again.
