Clinical Psychologist

verified by TherapyRoute

I'm an experienced, UCT-trained clinical psychologist with a warm and encouraging approach to therapy. Therapy with me includes both talk therapy and research-based practical strategies which you can implement between sessions. Over time, therapy can help you to feel lighter, more at ease and enjoy richer relationships and a greater sense of meaning in life.

About Me

With over a decade of clinical experience and many more years spent in the counselling space, I help clients negotiate life's varied challenges with a compassionate, tailored approach. You may be entering a new phase in your life. You may notice repeated patterns that negatively impact you, your work and your relationships. These might include negative self-talk, an inability to take care of your body despite your best attempts or feeling totally overwhelmed. Perhaps global crises have left you contemplating your identity and seeking meaning and purpose in your place in the world. You may wish to make sense of the intersectional influences of belief, race, class or other systems and the accompanying feelings these evoke. However much (or little) you desire a change or a fresh perspective on life, it's natural to want someone to help you navigate the discomfort and achieve your goals. I offer therapy in Cape Town and online.

Approach

My approach to therapy is gentle and thoughtful. I'll also bring a bit of light humour and questioning to our therapeutic conversations. In these conversations, we’ll work together to nurture deep insight into the origins of the feelings, thinking patterns and behaviours that are causing discomfort in your everyday life. Once we have established your goals, I offer a compassionate balance between steering and supporting you. Informed by psychodynamic therapies and intersectionality, my practice acknowledges individual, developmental and systemic influences. The therapeutic relationship we develop over time is often a powerful force in the healing and growth process. Sessions with me often support clients to strengthen their self-awareness, which helps them to notice and overcome unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. Together with practical strategies for change learned in therapy, this empowers clients to nurture more satisfying relationships, grow more meaningful careers and enjoy life with improved mental health.

Basic Information

Services

There are two ways in which I offer mental health support. Therapy sessions are available for individuals and families on a regular basis, as is group therapy. My practice also runs a calendar of workshops and programmes to support general mental well-being. I offer psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to help individuals navigate mental health difficulties. I can diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions. Taking a decolonial approach, I specialise in intergenerational trauma (including the fallout from racism and other discriminations) and struggling with identity and belonging. People of all beliefs, sexualities, neurodiversities, races and cultures can find a safe place to unburden themselves in therapy. The process allows individuals to validate their experiences or experiment with new and emerging ways of being and, ultimately, to engage life and its struggles in a much more meaningful, intentional and satisfying way.
