Alli Ruttger

Psychotherapist

My focus is on helping people develop the capacity to process the ongoing effects of repeated, difficult life experiences. I work with people who would like to address persistent feelings of shame, self-blame, and/or fear that have left them feeling disconnected from themselves. The approach I use tends to be well suited for people who identify as highly sensitive and/or creative at heart, people who have felt the need to hide significant parts of themselves, and/or people who would like to feel more at ease in their relationships. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ people wanting to explore and reclaim their identity in a safe and affirming space.

About Me

I am a curious and compassionate person, and I find great joy in connecting with others. My own sensitivities and life experiences have led me to deeply value how complex it is to be human, and I believe that making space for this complexity can be helpful. My hope is that with me, clients can discover ways to lighten the heaviness that they are carrying and in the process, learn more about themselves, their needs, and their inherent strengths and gifts.

Approach

I primarily use a relational approach, and I also use EMDR when it is indicated to help people process painful memories. This approach to therapy aims to help people to respond to feelings of hurt, grief, pain, heartache, loss, or shame. A core assumption is that we do not need to get rid of difficult emotions in order to feel better, but rather, we can learn how to understand and process them in new ways. If you went through something (or are going through something) that is an enduring source of distress or discomfort, then relational therapy and/or EMDR therapy may be a good fit for you.
