About Me
Approach
Hi, my name is John. I have been working in the field of addictions for twenty or so years. Sixteen of those years as the senior counsellor at The Bethesda Addictions Treatment Centre.
I also became the programme manager. I am a certified addictions counsellor as well as having diplomas in addiction psychology and trauma counselling.
I have further studied and have certificates in most of the popular modalities of treatment. I am comfortable using CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational interviewing and Mindfulness. I am not a huge fan of the disease concept or modality of treatment. However, I try not to throw the baby out with the bath water and can work with it in the interest of who I am working with.
My personal approach in eclectic. My strengths are my ability to build solid therapeutic alliances. My ability to command respect yet remain gentle and compassionate. I believe big time in integrity and accountability. I have supervision with my ex clinical director Colin Garnett and psychologist colleague Kayla Gous.
I know my limits and when I am out of my depth and am not afraid to consult with other professionals or refer.
I am very relational and twelve step orientated with a big focus on "Extreme Ownership" and "Radical Acceptance".
