This page lists Female Couples Family Therapists in Harare. 3 in all.
That is 3 of the 5 family therapists listed in Harare.
These are practitioners who identify as female on their profile 1. We ask every therapist that question, and they may decline to answer. We do not check the answer, and nothing here is ranked.
This list answers an explicit request for a woman. While many people prefer this, we found no research on whether it changes how the therapy goes.
A client and a practitioner always differ; what matters is what that means to you and how you work with it 2. You can filter the same list by the languages a practitioner works in.
What couples counselling works on, and what it does not decide
Couples counselling works with two people, and with what happens between them. It does not treat one of them.
Both partners usually attend 3. Couples counselling works on repeated arguments, an affair, sex, money, parenting, or a decision about separating.
It does not rule on who is right. It is not for married couples alone.
What a family therapist does, and who comes to the sessions
Everyone on this page describes their work as family or systemic therapy. Family therapy helps people in close relationships understand and support each other 4.
Family here means whoever those involved count as family. Sessions usually have more than one person in the room.
A therapist may also meet members on their own 5. Ask a practitioner who they would want in the room.
What this page filters on
These are the only filters: the practitioner's stated Female identity, the specialism recorded as Couples and the professional title family therapist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do both of us have to come?
Is this for married couples only?
No. Couples counselling is for people in a relationship, married or not, of any gender, living together or not. The same practitioners work with couples deciding whether to separate, and with couples who have already separated and are parenting together. Say which of those describes you at first contact.
Will the therapist say who is right?
No. The work is with what happens between two people rather than with a verdict on either of them. Effective work with couples needs its own theories and methods, drawn from research on relationships. Ask a practitioner how they handle it when you disagree in the room.
Can couples counselling be done online?
Yes, and many practitioners offer it. Couples therapy by video shows few significant differences from face-to-face sessions7. Symptom reduction, engagement and the therapeutic alliance are comparable.
Sitting in the same room at home suits some couples and not others. Ask what a practitioner offers.
What does marriage counselling cost in Harare?
We have no honest figure to publish. TherapyRoute has no cost guide for Zimbabwe, and we will not invent a range.
Session length shapes the fee. So do the practitioner's category and experience, and whether the session is in a consulting room or online.
Where a practitioner states a fee on their listing, that is their own. Ask each one before you book.
Is there a register that names this kind of work?
Zimbabwe has one. The Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe registers psychologists and clinical social workers, and it carries a family therapist and counsellor category8.
So a practitioner doing couples and family work can hold a registration that names it. Several practitioners listed here describe themselves that way1.
Ask which council and which category, then check the portal.
Is there free or low-cost counselling here?
Connect, the Zimbabwe Institute of Systemic Therapy, runs a counselling service in Harare9. Its fees are its own and we do not publish them.
We searched for a verified low-cost service in Bulawayo and hold none, so we name none1.
Practitioners listed here set their own fees. Ask whether there is any arrangement for people who cannot meet the usual one.
Does marriage counselling work?
Couple therapy is an effective treatment for relationship distress, and the main models reach broadly similar results10.
Behavioural, cognitive-behavioural, emotionally focused and integrative behavioural couple therapy meet the criteria researchers use for a well-established treatment11.
Those findings describe groups of couples in studies. They are not a forecast about any one relationship, and nobody listed here can promise you an outcome.
What the research does not settle is which approach suits you. Ask a practitioner how they work with two people, and what they do when the two of you want different things.
What happens in a marriage counselling session?
Both partners usually attend together.
Practice differs on what comes first. Some approaches open with a formal assessment that combines joint and individual meetings. Others use no set assessment stage3.
A first meeting normally covers three things. Why you are coming now, how each of you sees the problem, and what each of you wants changed.
Ask before you start whether the practitioner sees each partner alone. Ask what they do with what one partner tells them in private. Ask how you will know the work is done.
Will a medical aid society pay for marriage counselling in Zimbabwe?
We hold no readable source on this. The association site for medical aid societies could not be read safely when we tried, so nothing here is linked to it and nothing is asserted from it.
Societies set their own benefits, and the practitioner's registration category affects what can be claimed.
Ask your society whether consultations with that category are claimable on your plan, and ask the practitioner what they are able to invoice.
When should we go for marriage counselling?
There is no threshold you have to cross first. Relationship distress is one of the commonest reasons adults seek psychotherapy at all10.
Distress between partners travels. It is associated with mood, anxiety and substance-use difficulties in the partners themselves, and with difficulties for children in the household3.
Couples come with a repeating argument, with an affair, with a decision about whether to stay together, and with none of those. You do not have to agree on the problem before you make contact.
Who registers therapists in Zimbabwe?
The title you will see is Family Therapist - Counsellor. Search the register by name at Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (AHPCZ). A current entry is that body's own published record of the person.
A practitioner must hold that registration to practise legally in Zimbabwe. See the Zimbabwe page.
