Well-being hacks from the Internet don't usually make you feel better

A lot of people these days are doing everything the internet told them would make them feel better.

I come across so many people in my therapy room and also people I know, my friends, family, and acquaintances..

People who are doing everything the internet told them to feel better...

Managing anxiety is easier with the right support. TherapyRoute connects you with qualified therapists who specialise in anxiety and stress.

They wake up early.
They go to work everyday.
They hit the gym consistently.
They meditate.
They journal.
They eat healthy.
They listen to podcasts.
They read self-help books.
They stay productive.
They work on themselves constantly.

And yet, beneath all that discipline... they still feel exhausted, disconnected, empty, or quietly unhappy.

This is the part we do not talk about enough.
Because somewhere along the way, healing started becoming confused with self-optimization.

People started believing:
“If I fix my habits enough, maybe I will finally feel okay.”

And while routines, movement, sleep, nutrition, mindfulness, and structure absolutely matter and genuinely help...

These things cannot fully replace emotional processing, relational safety, grief work, working on your self-worth, or unresolved feelings..

You can meditate everyday and still feel lost.
You can go to the gym consistently and still not feel great in your body.
You can read 20 self-help books and still struggle to sit with yourself & your feelings.
You can be highly self-aware and still remain stuck in survival mode.

Because healing is not only about becoming a “better functioning” human being.

Sometimes it is about exploring:
Why do I constantly feel the need to optimize myself to deserve rest?
Why does slowing down make me anxious?
Why do I feel emotionally disconnected even when my life looks stable?
Why does achievement temporarily soothe me but not deeply fulfill me?
Why do I feel guilty when I am not being productive?

And this is where psychotherapy becomes different from self-improvement content you see on social media..

Therapy is not another performance metric you have to excel at, it is not always about becoming the most optimized version of yourself.

It can become a space where you:
no longer have to constantly manage yourself into worthiness.
explore the emotional patterns underneath the productivity.
loneliness underneath the discipline.
exhaustion & burnout underneath the functioning.

Sometimes people do not need more hacks, routines, books, or productivity systems.
Sometimes they just need a space where they can finally stop carrying themselves alone.
And I think many high-functioning adults are far more tired than they allow themselves to admit & feel.
