Telephone Aid Line Kingston (TALK)

Telephone Aid Line Kingston (TALK) offers confidential & listening support service for all members of the Kingston and surrounding community.

About Us

Telephone Aid Line Kingston (TALK) is a confidential, anonymous, non-judgmental, and volunteer-based listening service. We aim to meet the needs of the KFL&A community. We achieve this by creating an empathetic and safe environment on our listening line and during outreach events.

Approach

TALK offers confidential, anonymous, non-judgmental emotional support for anyone who needs someone to talk to. While we are not a counselling or clinical service, our volunteers provide a safe space where callers can speak openly about stress, loneliness, academic pressures, relationship concerns, and thoughts of suicide. Volunteers use evidence-informed listening and crisis-support skills to help callers feel grounded and understood without giving advice, making diagnoses, or directing decisions. TALK can complement other supports by offering a place to talk during hours when most services are closed, or between professional appointments, or while individuals wait to access care. When safety concerns arise, volunteers follow TALK’s crisis protocol and encourage callers to connect with appropriate professional or emergency supports. This approach maintains clear boundaries while ensuring callers receive compassionate, immediate emotional support.
