About Us

I am Dr. Anesu Chinoperekwei, owner of Serenity Mind Center. I have completed specialised training and hold a master’s degree in Psychiatry, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Mental Health Studies. I am fully registered with the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe and the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe. We conduct psychological and diagnostic assessments for both adults and children. We also prepare psycho-legal reports and offer advocacy for courts and families.

Approach

Deciding to seek help for mental health concerns can feel scary for many people, often because of cultural expectations and the stigma around these issues. To help ease some of that anxiety, we like to explain what you can expect from an initial consultation. When we first meet, we take time to get to know you, what your everyday life looks like, your background, and your experiences growing up. This includes understanding your family and relationships, and how these may (or may not) relate to what you’re experiencing now. We’ll also ask about your early school years, including both the successes and the challenges along the way. Sometimes, we may suggest bringing along a trusted friend or family member who knows you well. They can help us build a fuller picture of who you are today and how things may have changed over time. All of this helps us understand how best to support you, and what you’d like to gain from the sessions. It also gives you a sense of how we work, while helping us build a trusting therapeutic relationship from the start. In terms of follow-up, some clients come twice a month for the first three months, then less often, sometimes every six months. Others may come more or less frequently, depending on how they’re coping and the stressors they’re facing at different points in their lives.

Basic Information

Services

As a psychiatrist, my work involves supporting people through many forms of emotional pain and trauma. Through our conversations, I’m able to gently explore any underlying or significant life events that may have contributed to what you’re experiencing. I assess the severity of the condition and determine whether medication might be helpful. For some, finding the right medication can take time; for others, it may be a shorter process. We aim to find what works best for you with the fewest possible side effects. At the same time, not all emotional or psychological difficulties require medication. We recognise this and tailor our approach accordingly, supporting you through each step toward healing and recovery. If you feel you may need an evaluation, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to arrange an appointment.
