Sara Sanford

Psychotherapist

I help adults navigate anxiety, trauma, and life transitions with compassion and care. My approach is collaborative, body-aware, and focused on building safety and self-trust so you can feel more connected, grounded, and empowered in your life.

About Me

With twenty years of experience, Sara offers a genuinely warm and inclusive space where you can explore your inner world without judgment. She compassionately guides you to understand and ease the grip of anxiety and depression. Sara tailors each session to your unique needs, helping you cultivate stronger connections and embrace a life where you feel more at ease and connected.

Approach

You’ll find a steady, responsive rhythm in sessions that balances quiet reflection, gentle movement awareness, and practical experiments to help shift stuck patterns. Whether we meet in San Francisco or online in English, I create predictable structure—check-ins, short somatic practices, and collaboratively chosen goals—so the work feels manageable and safe. Between sessions I often offer simple practices to try, brief check-ins when needed, and space to notice changes in body and thinking. This way of working suits people wanting steadier grounding and clearer self-trust.

Basic Information

Services

You might look like you’re holding it together on the outside—showing up for work, relationships, responsibilities—but inside, it’s another story. You feel overwhelmed, tired of pushing through, and unsure of how to fully be yourself. Something isn’t working anymore, and part of you knows it’s time to stop pretending it’s fine

I work with adults who are ready to look beneath the surface and understand the patterns that are keeping them stuck.

Many of my clients have a history of trauma or grew up in environments where they had to stay small, strong, or invisible in order to feel safe. As a trauma-informed psychotherapist, I create a space where you don’t have to perform, fix, or prove anything—where all parts of you are welcome, especially the ones that feel too much or not enough.

In our work together, we’ll slow things down and make space for what’s been buried, avoided, or pushed aside. We’ll explore the beliefs you carry, the emotional habits that once kept you safe but now hold you back, and the deeper longings that are ready to be heard. You don’t have to do this alone. Therapy can help you feel more present, more connected, and more like yourself—maybe for the first time in a long time.

I can support you with: trauma and complex PTSD, anxiety and chronic overwhelm, relationship issues and boundary work, LGBTQ+ affirming care, grief, loss, and life transitions, self-worth, identity, and emotional healing, burnout and the pressure to “keep it together.”

My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and deeply human. I draw from relational, psychodynamic, and somatic therapy to meet you exactly where you are. I don’t offer quick fixes—but I do offer a space for real, sustainable change.

I see clients in person at the Prana Holistic Healing Center in San Francisco (Castro District), and also offer virtual therapy across California.

If you’re ready to stop going it alone, I’m here. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation and let’s see if this work feels right for you.
