Mia Meiring, BSocSci

Specialist Wellness Counselor

I am a registered Specialist Wellness Counsellor with the ASCHP, working primarily with teenagers and adults navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, low mood, self-esteem difficulties, identity exploration, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and person-centred. I believe therapy is most effective when clients feel emotionally safe, genuinely heard, and accepted without judgement. Rather than focusing on simply reducing symptoms, I work alongside clients to better understand themselves, develop emotional resilience, strengthen self-worth, and build practical coping strategies that support lasting wellbeing. I offer online counselling because I believe support should adapt to the individual, not the other way around. Being able to engage from the comfort of your own environment often reduces the pressure that can come with traditional therapy and allows for more authentic, meaningful conversations. My goal is to create a space that feels calm, human, and approachable, where clients can show up exactly as they are, explore their experiences at their own pace, and leave with greater clarity, confidence, and self-understanding.

About Me

I've always been fascinated by people, what shapes us, how our experiences influence the way we see ourselves, and why we sometimes find ourselves feeling stuck despite wanting things to be different. That curiosity is what first led me to study psychology, but it was working directly with people that confirmed this was the path I wanted to follow. One of the things I value most about counselling is having the opportunity to sit alongside someone during both the difficult and meaningful moments in their life. It is a privilege to witness people become more self-aware, more self-compassionate, and more confident in who they are. I strive to create a therapeutic space that feels warm, genuine, and free from judgement, where you can show up exactly as you are. I believe meaningful change begins when we feel safe enough to be honest with ourselves, and together we'll work to better understand your experiences, strengthen your emotional wellbeing, and help you move towards a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

Approach

I believe therapy is not about having someone tell you what to do, but about creating a space where you feel safe enough to better understand yourself. Every person brings a unique story, which is why I tailor my approach to each individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. My work is grounded in a person-centred, trauma-informed approach that values curiosity, compassion, and collaboration. Together, we'll explore your experiences, make sense of the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work towards greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and meaningful change.
