Mrs Melissa Shaw

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I am a licensed therapist who works with individuals and couples to strengthen emotional connection and improve relationship functioning. My clinical focus includes trauma, anxiety, and depression, with particular attention to how these experiences impact communication, attachment, and intimacy.

About Me

I’m a therapist who believes relationships are where we both get hurt and healed. I work with individuals and couples who feel stuck—disconnected from themselves, each other, or the kind of love they want to give and receive. Much of my work focuses on trauma, anxiety, and depression—especially how they quietly show up in relationships and make closeness feel hard or unsafe. Together, we slow things down and get curious about what’s happening beneath the surface. We look at patterns, unspoken needs, and the moments where connection gets lost. I create a space where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out—just show up as you are. From there, we build new ways of communicating, repairing, and reconnecting so you can feel more understood, more grounded, and more at home in your relationships—with others and with yourself.

Approach

When connection feels fragile, I guide sessions toward small, practical shifts—clearer conversation patterns, tender curiosity about past hurts, and steady attention to how your body and emotions signal safety. In my Lakewood office, Colorado, sessions move at a measured pace: we pair focused in-room exercises with simple between-session experiments so insights grow into everyday habits. Treatment blends gentle tracking of flashbacks and sensations with targeted processing to loosen old defenses. This approach tends to suit adults and couples ready to rebuild trust without rush.
