Ms Lizé van Graan, MA

Clinical Psychologist

I view psychological healing as a deeply human process and needs to be tended to holistically, as the mind and body are intricately connected. My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, particularly Schema Therapy, attachment-focused work, and somatic-informed practice. I integrate these with elements of psychodynamic thinking, CBT, and nutritional psychology. Many clients come to therapy knowing what they “should” do but finding that something inside them resists change. I’m interested in that “something” – the protective parts, unmet needs, and old survival strategies that made sense once but now keep life small. I aim to work respectfully, ethically, and at a pace that fits your nervous system rather than pushing for quick fixes.

About Me

I’m a Clinical Psychologist with a background in both psychology and nutritional science, bringing together an understanding of mind, body, and relationships in the way I work. I think about wellbeing as something that lives not only in thoughts, but also in the nervous system, the body, and everyday habits of care. I work with adults who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves and others. Many of the people I see are carrying the impact of difficult childhood experiences, complicated relationships, or long-standing patterns that no longer serve them. I’m especially interested in trauma, attachment, emotional regulation, and the quieter forms of suffering that don’t always have clear labels – feeling “too much,” “not enough,” or unsure who you are underneath the roles you’ve learned to play. My style is warm, curious, and collaborative. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe enough to slow down, be honest, and discover parts of yourself that may not have had space before.

Approach

I don’t see therapy as just talking about problems. Real change happens when insight meets emotional experience and the body has a chance to feel safe enough to do something new. My approach draws mainly from: Schema Therapy and parts work: understanding the different “modes” or parts of you – such as the Vulnerable Child, Inner Critic, or Detached Protector – and helping them find healthier ways to relate. Attachment-focused therapy: exploring how early relationships shaped the way you connect, trust, and protect yourself today. Somatic and nervous-system awareness: noticing how emotions live in the body and learning to gently regulate rather than override them. Integrative CBT and psychodynamic ideas: to link present struggles with deeper meanings and practical change. Nutritional psychology: The connection between how food affects our mental health and how our mind influences our eating habits. I work collaboratively and transparently. My hope is that you leave not only with insight, but with a kinder inner voice and more freedom to live as yourself.
