Mrs Katherine Howell, BA

Registered Counselor

I support individuals who identify as having diverse needs: Sensory Sensitivities, Mood Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, and Physical Disabilities. Clients often come to me looking for support with their nervous system, after plateauing with traditional talk therapy. They may be experiencing overwhelm, dysregulation, dissociation, or feel like they're carrying the weight of unresolved pains and traumas. Together, we explore their somatic and felt sense, which I believe is the doorway from pain and trauma to healing and integration.

About Me

Before becoming a therapist, I had a vibrant career in community inclusion and psychosocial rehabilitation, supporting persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness. I have always been drawn to person-centred roles as a professional, and I am so excited to entering my fourth year in private practice! People describe me as warm, gentle, and genuine. The client-therapist relationship is at the heart of everything I do.

Approach

I take an eclectic or integrative approach to therapy, drawing from a blend of evidence-informed therapies such as Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Brainspotting Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and Attachment-based Therapy. Sessions are a blend of conversation (cognitive) and somatic (what's happening in your body). Clients will often hear me ask 'where do you notice that in your body right now?' Most importantly, everything we do will be in the spirit of true collaboration, because we can only take risks and heal when we feel safe and attuned to.
