Jessica L. Passero, MSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I am a clinical social worker with 15 years of experience. I see myself as a guide who supports clients in their personal and emotional growth. I help clients become more self-aware, improve self regulation and coping skills, heal from previous stressful/traumatic experiences, enhance their communication skills, and understand their emotions at a deeper level. I believe that people can heal themselves and once change happens internally, external changes will follow. Change within, you can change your life.

About Me

I have a upbeat, creative, warm and non-judgmental personality which clients report make it easy and natural to open up to me. I believe that therapy is an avenue to self improvement, healing and transformation. I empower clients to make changes to improve their lives. I was naturally drawn to becoming a therapist due my curosity about people and my interest in helping and healing others. In my earlier years of being a social worker, I worked in medical settings as a mental health provider in hospitals, outpatient medical clinics and for hospice before opening my own private practice.

Approach

I have an eclectic therapy approach using many different treatment modalities. My therapy style is person centered as I tailor my treatment approaches to my clients' individual needs. I really try to make coming to counseling an enjoyable experience by keeping the conversation as engaging, informative, and comfortable as possible. I use traditional counseling techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy, as well as complementary therapy approaches such as mindfulness and meditation to help clients work towards greater happiness. Below is an explaination of my primary therapy approaches and how I use them. Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) I help clients become more aware of how their thinking effects their mood and behavior. I help clients recognize negative thought patterns that are negatively effecting their perceptions. I assist clients in helping them change these patterns through cognitive restructure and reframing. Mindfulness-Based Therapy I weave mindfulness principles into my therapy approach including: nonjudgment, acceptance, curiosity, openness, and non-striving. I also help clients become more objective about negative thoughts and help them learn how to reduce over processing. Additionally, I teach my clients mindfulness techniques to improve stress management and relaxation.
