Psychologist-Psychotherapist

verified by TherapyRoute

If you are living abroad and feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that repeat - whether in relationships, mood, or self-worth - you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m Iliana Sardi, a clinical psychologist and systemic-relational psychotherapist based in Pesaro (Italy), working online internationally. Having lived in several European countries myself, I bring a multicultural, expat-informed lens to therapy - especially when identity, belonging, and relationships feel strained by distance, transitions, or cultural change. My work is trauma-informed and integrative, with a strong focus on psychotraumatology and dissociation. I help clients make sense of symptoms as protective responses, strengthen emotional regulation, and reconnect with themselves and others in a way that feels safe and sustainable. Sessions are available in Italian, English, and Greek.

About Me

I’m Iliana Sardi, a clinical psychologist and systemic-relational psychotherapist based in Pesaro, Italy, working online internationally. In my work, I aim to offer a space that feels steady, respectful, and genuinely human - where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or rush to “fix” yourself. People often come to me when they feel overwhelmed, emotionally disconnected, or trapped in patterns that keep repeating - especially after difficult life experiences, relational wounds, or periods of chronic stress. Many seek support for trauma-related symptoms, relationship difficulties, anxiety or mood fluctuations, and struggles with self-worth and confidence. I also work with expats and international individuals navigating transitions, cultural shifts, loneliness, or a sense of not fully belonging. Having lived in several European countries myself, I understand how relocation can affect identity, relationships, and self-esteem, even when life “on paper” looks fine. Working with me is collaborative and paced. We focus first on building safety and clarity - understanding what your symptoms may be communicating and what your nervous system needs to feel more regulated. From there, we explore attachment and relational dynamics, inner conflicts, and the beliefs that shape self-esteem, so that change becomes both possible and sustainable. I work primarily with individuals, and I offer sessions in Italian, English, and Greek.

Approach

Therapy is a collaborative space where we make sense of what you’re living, at your pace, with clarity and care. My aim is to help you feel safer inside your emotions and relationships, so you can make choices that are more aligned with who you are - rather than driven by fear, pressure, or old patterns. My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, grounded in a systemic-relational perspective. That means we don’t look at symptoms in isolation: we explore how your inner world, your history, and your relational context interact - family dynamics, attachment experiences, current stressors, and the roles you’ve learned to take on. At the same time, we work in a very practical way: identifying what keeps you stuck, strengthening emotional regulation, and building new relational and behavioural options you can actually use in daily life. When trauma, anxiety, or dissociation are part of the picture, we start with stability. We focus on safety, nervous system regulation, and workable tools before going deeper into painful material. You won’t be pushed into “going back” before you have enough resources and support. Therapy can be both gentle and honest: we name what’s happening, we track patterns as they unfold, and we practice different ways of responding - so change becomes possible, not just understood. In sessions you can expect a balance of: - a warm, non-judgmental space - clear structure and shared goals - attention to emotions, body signals, and meaning - work on boundaries, self-esteem, and relationships - practical strategies to support you between sessions If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, we can start with a first consultation to clarify your needs and decide together what kind of support would be most useful.

Basic Information

Services

I work with adults and young adults who are navigating emotional distress, relationship difficulties, and the impact of stressful or traumatic experiences. My clinical focus includes: - Trauma and complex trauma - Childhood adversity, relational trauma, emotional neglect, chronic stress, and their long-term effects (hypervigilance, shame, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and difficulties in trust and intimacy). - Anxiety and panic-related difficulties - Persistent worry, somatic anxiety, panic symptoms, avoidance, and the sense of being “on edge” or overwhelmed. - Mood difficulties and emotional instability - Depressive states, low motivation, irritability, mood swings, and difficulties regulating emotions - especially when stress and relational factors play a key role. - Self-esteem, identity, and boundaries - People-pleasing, perfectionism, guilt, fear of disappointing others, difficulty saying no, and rebuilding a more solid sense of self. - Relationship and attachment patterns - Repetitive relational dynamics, fear of abandonment, jealousy, conflict cycles, emotional dependency, and challenges in communication and closeness. - Dissociation and “feeling disconnected” - Depersonalisation/derealisation, emotional numbing, memory gaps, and the experience of not feeling fully present - often linked to trauma and high stress. - Life transitions and high-stress periods - Burnout, work-related stress, relocation, separation, grief, and phases of change where old strategies stop working and new ones are needed. If you’re not sure whether your concern fits these areas, you’re welcome to reach out - together we can clarify what you’re experiencing and what kind of support would be most helpful.
