Dr Karin Du Plessis, PhD

Registered Counselor

“Are you trapped in constant conflict, walking on eggshells, or feeling more like detached roommates than romantic partners? As a specialist couples counsellor at Relationships Squared, I help Melbourne couples escape defensive communication cycles and revive intimacy. Using fair, balanced, and evidence-based Gottman Method frameworks, we work together to transform your relationship into one of stronger connection, warmth, and ease. We proudly welcome and support all orientations. ”

About me

I am an experienced couples counsellor with a PhD in psychology specifically focusing on couples' conflict, attachment dynamics, and relationship systems. Taking the first step toward relationship therapy can feel incredibly daunting, but you do not have to carry this burden alone. My therapeutic style is warm, non-judgmental, transparent, and direct, ensuring both partners feel equally heard, protected, and supported.

Approach

My relational and attachment-based approach follows a structured path to help you step out of old patterns and rebuild connection. • Advanced Framework: My practice is grounded in having completed Level 3 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. • Thorough Assessment: We map your unique dynamics using a 3-step relationship health assessment and the Gottman Questionnaire. • Active In-Session Practice: We use structured, fair exercises to break defensive communication cycles in real time. • Actionable Homework: You receive practical habits to manage conflict and maintain warmth between appointments.
