Mr Dexter Benjamin

Child Psychotherapist

I am a Tavistock trained Child Psychotherapist with over 20 years experience of working with children and adolescents in schools, and adoptive and foster care.

About Me

I help children and adolescents navigate difficult feelings and life transitions. Having worked extensively in schools, and adoptive and foster care, I deeply understand the unique challenges young people face. I offer a consistent, calm space where they can safely explore their inner world. Here, they can make sense of experiences and grow towards emotional well-being. This approach helps them build resilience and find their voice.

Approach

Helping young people grow often looks practical and patient: I follow their lead while gently naming patterns, using play, drawing and storytelling to make difficult feelings manageable. Sessions in my London consulting room or via secure online video in English are steady and predictable, with occasional joint meetings with carers or schools to support day-to-day change. I combine careful observation with brief reflective tasks between sessions so insights translate into calmer relationships and clearer identity. This way of working suits adolescents and families seeking thoughtful, relational change.
