CORE SERVICES:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing has been shown to be very effective in working through anxiety, depression, stress and trauma to include posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD.
EMDR is broken down into eight phases:
1. History and Treatment Planning:
This initial phase involves gathering information about the client's past experiences and current symptoms, as well as establishing treatment goals.
2. Preparation:
The therapist educates the client about the EMDR process, introduces coping strategies, and ensures the client feels safe and supported.
3. Assessment:
This phase focuses on identifying specific memories or events that the client wants to process, along with the associated thoughts, feelings, and sensations.
4. Desensitization:
The client, with the therapist's guidance, uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sound) while focusing on the target memory, gradually reducing its emotional intensity.
5. Installation:
This phase involves reinforcing positive beliefs and emotions that the client wants to associate with the target memory, replacing negative ones.
6. Body Scan:
The therapist guides the client to scan their body for any remaining physical sensations related to the memory, processing any residual discomfort.
7. Closure:
Each session concludes with a closure phase, ensuring the client returns to a calm and regulated state, regardless of whether the target memory has been fully processed.
8. Reevaluation:
The therapist evaluates the client's progress and makes any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.
EMDR has been shown to be extremely effective. Of those who complete EMDR who have suffered from anxiety, depression, stress and trauma to include posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD - 70% of those who completed therapy have been found to have their symptoms improved.
EMDR can be done in person or over telehealth.
Sex Therapy is not all just about sex. Sometimes mental health concerns can manifest itself in sexual performance and sometimes concerns in sexual performance can manifest itself outside sex itself.
Sex should exist without judgment as long as it is done with consent. Sex therapy should be done in a culturally aware manner.
