Ms Corné Wentzel

Registered Counselor

The aim of my work is enduring transformation: alleviating psychological suffering while expanding a person’s capacity for freedom, creativity, and authentic engagement with their life.

About Me

I am curious about how people change, and what the internal psychological factors are which influence our freedom and capacity to grow. I work from a psychoanalytic perspective with individuals and couples in my private practice. I have a deep conviction that psychoanalysis offers a uniquely powerful way of engaging with the underlying structures that shape a person’s experience, rather than focusing only on surface-level symptoms. This approach is helpful to people who are seeking greater personal freedom and creativity, relief from psychological suffering, and a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. Before entering clinical practice, I spent many years in the corporate IT environment and hold an MBA. This background informs my sensitivity to the pressures, complexities, and internal conflicts often faced by professionals. Aside from my work in private practice, I am also interested in how psychoanalysis engages with its context. I have presented a paper with my colleague Ntshediseng Tlooko on the relationship between psychoanalysis and inequality. I believe that psychoanalytic thinking can be applied in targeted interventions, such as those offered by the Ububele Psychotherapy Trust to mothers and infants in Alexandra. I volunteer at Ububele, and want to find ways to scale their work by applying my background in business together with my clinical experience and training.

Approach

I use a psychoanalytic approach to help you look beyond immediate concerns and understand the deeper patterns shaping your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. If you feel stuck, disconnected, or lonely, or notice recurring relationship difficulties, we can work together to uncover their underlying causes. This approach can also help make sense of unexplained physical symptoms, as well as ongoing anxiety and stress. By exploring what lies beneath the surface, you can gain clarity and begin to move forward in a more meaningful way.
