Ms Cathy Rogers, MSW

Psychoanalyst

verified by TherapyRoute

I am an experienced psychotherapist working in Vredehoek, Cape Town. With psychoanalysis and psychotherapy I treat anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship difficulties. I work with adults, couples and sometimes children to address their mental health challenges by exploring unconscious patterns to promote emotional well being. Everything discussed is in English, confidential and can be online or in my rooms.

About Me

I am easy to talk to and kind, but also firm once we establish the goals and focus of our work. This work is often difficult and painful so my attitude and my garden setting, with the sound of birds and water, helps to bring a natural inner calmness. I have an interest in art and creativity, which leads many creative people to seek consultations.

Approach

My psychoanalytic approach will lead you to soon understand yourself better so that you will make your own informed decisions, rather than receive advice. This understanding is built from your gradual trust in me - our totally confidential relationship and the professional role I sustain. Together we find your goals and address ineffective methods and patterns in your conflict resolutions - how they evolved and how they still play out. This involves recognising your repetitions, the unconscious forces at play, dreams and may include the various forms of the arts you engage in.

Basic Information

Services

I offer therapy to adults, couples and some children. Initially we work out what the focus of our work will be and whether we think we will be a good fit. Later we decide on the regularity of sessions. Psychoanalysis with adults involves a method called free association, which can often, but not always, involve lying on a couch to develop a self focus. Sessions are sequentially 3 to 4 times a week to reach the depth and intensity of an effective intervention for those seeking depth work to resolve an entrenched problem. Psychotherapy with adults, couples and adolescents is a twice or once weekly meeting in which patterns and threads of conflicts are slowly resolved. I have a limited child therapy and couple practice.
