Dr Alex Carter

Clinical Psychologist

I am an experienced psychologist & therapist offering long-term therapy for a range of addictive disorders & relapse prevention. My practice also addresses other issues relating to mental health, including mood disorders such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. I also help people with issues of personal growth

About Me

I offer long-term therapy, providing a safe space for deep exploration. We can explore underlying patterns contributing to addiction or mood challenges like depression and anxiety. Together, we build lasting strategies for relapse prevention, helping you find stability. My approach also supports significant personal growth, allowing you to make sense of complex feelings. This helps you move towards a life of greater balance and self-awareness.

Approach

From that foundation I guide a steady, exploratory pace that balances reflective listening with gentle challenge, helping you notice how patterns play out in daily life. Sessions are offered in English from my Cape Town practice and online, so we can work consistently whether you’re local or remote. I use mentalising ideas and psychodynamic thinking to connect present triggers with relational history, and we set small, practical experiments between sessions to test new responses and lower relapse risk. This way suits adults ready for steady, collaborative change.
