Mr Derek Cohen

Clinical Psychologist

Derek has worked with children and their families for over 35 years, specialising in ADHD, ASD, behavioural and emotional disorders.

About Me

I guide children and their families through the complexities of ADHD, ASD, and emotional or behavioural challenges. With over 35 years of dedicated experience, I offer a calm, consistent space where young people can feel understood. We work together to develop tailored strategies, helping families navigate daily life with greater ease and connection. My approach supports children in building confidence and finding their own unique strengths.

Approach

Work unfolds through steady, predictable sessions that honour each child's pace and family routines while keeping things practical. Based in Perth, I meet with children, adolescents and parents in English, usually face-to-face, and keep sessions focused, time-limited and deliberate so progress is clear between visits. I use gentle observation, scaffolded tasks and clear home–school steps we design together, reviewing what works and adapting as needs shift. Families looking for pragmatic, consistent support tend to find this way of working helpful.
