Mrs Bryony Niemann, MPsych

Clinical Psychologist

I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief, self-worth and major life transitions. Therapy goes beyond simply feeling supported — we work to understand what isn’t working, build the skills you need, and create meaningful, sustainable change.

About Me

I’m a clinical psychologist and have worked in mental health since 2008, with more than a decade in private practice. I’m warm, informal and very engaged — I’m not a sit-back-and-nod therapist. I’ll tell you what I’m thinking, explain concepts, share my clinical understanding and help you build practical skills. There’s very little pretence required here: swear, laugh, cry, arrive in your hoodie or do the session from your car. You don’t need to perform therapy properly; just bring the unedited version of yourself. And because I believe the therapeutic relationship matters enormously, I’m equally comfortable saying that if we don’t click, we’re probably not the right fit.

Approach

My work is grounded in psychodynamic thinking. We spend time connecting the dots — understanding how your experiences and patterns have shaped the way you protect yourself, where your vulnerabilities sit, how you respond under pressure, and what still feels unmet. From there, I draw on CBT, DBT and ACT to translate that understanding into change: identifying what isn’t working, building practical skills and finding different ways of responding to what life throws at you. We work in both directions — understanding the deeper story while addressing what is bringing you to therapy now. You don’t need to spend years analysing your childhood if what you need first is relief from symptoms interfering with your life.
